Yohanna enjoyed a sizeable hit after coming second with Is It True? for Iceland in 2009. The single charged into the top 20 of no fewer than 8 territories and her album Butterflies and Elvis finally managed to get an international release. She hopes to replicate the success with her newest single, released just in time for Christmas.
After Moscow in 2009, Yohanna or Jóhanna Guðrun as she is known in her native Iceland, tried once more in 2011 with the fan favourite and OGAE second chance winner Nótt, but was beaten into third place, with Sjónni’s Friends and Coming Home running off with the ticket to Düsseldorf. Funnily enough, although perhaps her 2011 experience wasn’t exactly the inspiration for her new single, her newest Christmas single is also entitled Coming Home. The single was released yesterday on iTunes, and Yohanna informs fans on her Facebook page that she is also working on getting the single released as a digital single on Amazon.
Her newest offering will no doubt please her army of fans, with it being a while since her last offering, Indian Rope Trick came out at the beginning of 2012. The young artist with the angelic voice moved to Norway almost a year ago in order to bring her closer to Europe and to further her career. Could this newest release be seen as possible promotion for a suspected comeback in the Icelandic national finals, Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins?
This isn’t the first Christmas release from the fresh faced beauty; back in 2002 at the age of 12, she released the Christmas album Jól með Jóhönnu (Christmas with Jóhanna), a collection of well known Christmas songs, including amongst others Heims Um Ból (Silent Night). She has also performed a number of Christmas songs previously as guest at Bó Halldorsson’s annual Christmas extravaganza. You can see a clip of her performing the Icelandic version of O Holy Night, Ó Helga Nótt, below.
