After two years of internal choice, TVE returns to the national selection format to pick the Spanish representative for Copenhagen. Today the names of the five artists in the run, have been announced: Brequette, Jorge González, La Dama, Raúl and Ruth Lorenzo. The final will be held in February.
The national selection for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will take place at a televised show, which will be broadcast by TVE in February. The audience, through televoting, and a jury made of music experts will decide which artist will represent Spain in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Spanish broadcaster has invited five experience artists to participate in the national selection and they are:
Brequette: She rose to fame in 2012 after her participation in the
talent show "The Voice" where she captivated the audience. Her song is a
mid-tempo called Más (Run) and it comes from an expert Eurovision team
led by Tony Sanchez-Ohlsson and Thomas G:son. The team is completed by Pastora
Soler, who represented Spain at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest with
Quédate Conmigo, who will be responsible for the artistic part.
Jorge González: This is not his first time as a candidate to represent
Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest having finished eighth in the
national selection in 2009 singing Si Yo Vengo A Enamorarte. He also
took part in the online audition for 2008 and 2010 with Celos and Amada
Mía respectively. This time, he will try his luck with a pop song called
Aunque Se Acabe El Mundo which means Even If The World Ends.
La Dama: Despite having been working in music her entire life, La Dama,
whose real name is Damaris Abad, is probably the least popular of the
candidates. She belongs to a family of musicians having created her own
group alongside her brother Rasel and worked as backing singer with her
husband Melendi. He is indeed the author of her candidate entry called
Estrella Fugaz which means Shooting Star. It is a combination of R&B style
and electro-pop rhythms.
Raúl: He is an established artist who rose to fame in 2000 when he was the
runner-up of the Spanish national selection Eurocanción with his song
Sueño Su Boca which became a huge hit that summer. Now, he is back in the national selection with a deep ballad called Seguir Sin Ti which means
Go On Without You.
Ruth Lorenzo: A few weeks ago it was speculated that TVE might have already internally selected her to represent Spain at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. The rumor was so strong that the artist herself had to make a statement through her social media saying that she had been talking to the Spanish broadcaster and she would be happy to represent her country as long as the proposal is convincing and consistent with her musical project. Despite not being too well known in his native country she is quite popular in the United Kingdom after finishing fifth in the British talent show The X Factor in 2008. She already has the support of large number of Spanish Eurovision fans who have participated in recent days in several campaigns to support Ruth on social media. She will participate in the national selection with a pop song called Dancing In The Rain written by Ruth herself.
Their potential Eurovision entries will be
released in the coming days.
