Back in their heyday, the group Stjórnin gave Iceland their first taste of what it feels like to reach fathom the upper reaches of the Eurovision scoreboard with their bouncy number Eitt Lag Enn, ending in fourth place back in 1990. Tickets have just gone on sale for their special 25th anniversary concert next month with a few familiar faces helping out.
Grétar Örvarsson and Sigríður Beinteinsdóttir (Sigga) were the "golden couple" of the Icelandic music scene in the late eighties/early nineties. Not content with a fourth place in Zagreb, they made another attempt two years later in Malmö under a slightly different guise, namely Heart 2 Heart with the equally catchy Nei Eða Já, bringing Iceland a taste of success once again, this time landing in 7th position. Outside of Eurovision, the charmismatic couple together with their band Stjórnin enjoyed immense success in their native Iceland with hits such as Við eigum samleið, Allt í einu and Ég lifi í voninni.
This year marks their 25th anniversary and Stjórnin plan to throw a party to which everyone is invited! They are giving a special concert on Saturday the 25th of October at the Háskólabíó venue in Reykjavík. With seven albums under their belt, the hits are guaranteed to keep flowing all evening. On stage they wil be joined by three famililar Eurovision faces on backing vocals: Regina Ósk, Friðrik Ómar and Erna Hrönn, all of whom have strong Eurovision connections, both as participants in the national preselections as well as at Eurovision itself.
If you happen to be in Reykjavík on the 25th of next month, then why not check them out – you’re practically guaranteed a fantastic time with a great party atmosphere. Tickets are on sale for ISK 6500 (40 €) and can be purchased through the midi.is website.
