Greek-German songstress Vicky Leandros has been awarded a prestigious title by the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, it was announced in various Luxemburgisch media today. Grand Duke Henri bestowed upon her the title "Commander of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg".
The reason behind the presentation was the longstanding relationship between the Grand Duchy and Ms Leandros. The popular singer has previously prepresented the small nation twice at the contest, the first time with L’Amour Est Bleu, in 1967, which gained a respectable 4th place and went on to become arguably the biggest hit of the contest that year, even being recorded in multiple languages, including a Japanese version. Vicky Leandros didn’t need asking twice, when representing Luxemburg once again in 1972 with the evergreen Après Toi, taking the title home to the Grand Duchy. Her winning song once again became a major hit throughout Europe.
Luxemburg’s minister of communication François Biltgen will present the singer with her award at a special ceremony to be held at the Luxemburgish embassy in Berlin at a later date, expected to be sometime in February.
Vicky Leandros’ latest album Zeitlos (Timeless) was released by Universal Records last autumn. Her jubilee tour will kick off in March, taking her throughout Germany and Switzerland.
