After months of speculations and a battle that involved five cities and three withdrawls, the host city for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest has finally been announced. It will be the Danish capital Copenhagen that will host the event in May next year.
Copenhagen was the obvious choice from the beginning. None of the other cities in play were able to offer both a large arena and plenty of hotel rooms. Aalborg would have been able to offer the capital a good fight, but as they pulled out early in the bidding process Copenhagen and Parken stood as the most likely option.
As Parken then withdrew their hosting offer things looked a bit more dodgy. Yes, Copenhagen still had the airport close by, the hotel capacity required and the city was large enough to offer an interesting day and night life for the many delegations, press and fans travelling to the Eurovision Song Contest, but without a suitable arena it was once again totally open though as things moved closer and closer Herning looked like the winner and fans and press already started worrying about that the city only have 20% of the required hotel capacity.
Today it was then announced that it will be the capital Copenhagen hosting it anyway. The arena itself will be the "B & W" hall, which is an empty factory building standing with its raw contruction left. Anyone coming by today might find it hard to imagine how this can be turned into a suitable Eurovision Song Contest arena, but with more than half a year to change things it should be possible – and offers the possibility of decorating it exactly to the needs of the contest.
In 2014 the Eurovision Song Contest final will be held on May the 10th with the two semi-finals held two and four days before. The rehearsals and press conferences will start approximately two weeks prior to the final. In between the two Eurovision weeks a big Eurovision tribute concert will be held, also in B & W. More information about that can be found in our article, which you find a link to below.
Further details about the specific plans regarding Copenhagen as host city will come soon, but today it was also announced that the slogan for the 2014 contest will be "Join Us".
