Danish finalist from 11 years ago, Ida Lohmann, was in Saturday’s first episode of Voice – Danmark’s Største Stemme. This is the Danish version of the famous Dutch programme, which is currently running in several countries. Saturday Ida was picked by Lene Nystrøm from Aqua.
It started in the Netherlands with John de Mol and Voice of Holland, but has since spread to several countries like many other popular talent shows do. Saturday it was Denmark’s turn to start as TV2 kicked off its Voice – Danmark’s Største Stemme (Denmark’s largest voice).
For Ida Lohmann it was close to being over just as it barely had started as only one of the four coaches hit the button to express interest in working together with her – and that push came at the very last second just as she had gotten more nervous thinking it was all over. Had Lene Nystrøm from the succesful Danish band Aqua waited just a little bit longer Ida had been out of the competition.
The episode Saturday evening was watched by 1,1 million Danes and as such was a big succes from the start. How many actually reconised Ida we don’t know, but can guess that it wasn’t many as her participation in the 2000 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix was not mentioned. Under the name Aida Ida finished fourth in the Danish final with the song Mayday Mayday, but was Saturday evening presented as a 38 year old woman from Aalborg who had been putting her life on hold to take care of sick dauther born with heart problems. Now she thought the time had come for her to try to furfill her dream about becoming a professionel singer. In the show she had decided to sing Lis Sørensen’s Stille Før Storm (Quiet before storm).
Ida and Lene Nystrøm can exchange memories as Lene with her band Aqua was interval acts at the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest after Denmark won the year before due to Olsen Brothers‘ victory with Fly On The Wings Of Love, which Ida lost to in the Danish final.
As previously mentioned here on EuroVisionary another former Danish finalist, Ulla Bjerre, is also taking part in a talent show. From January the TV viewers can follow her in X-Factor on DR1. She participated in the Danish final in 1991 with the song Med Expresstog Til Kina together with Ole Bredahl.
In Turkey, The Voice of Turkey has also featured a Eurovision relation as Sedat Yüce, who represented his country at the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest participated in the talent show where Hadise, the country’s 2009 participation was one of the coaches judging him.
