Many familiar faces take the stage for Battle Rounds at The Voice of Spain

Mirela, Paco Arrojo, Anael, Jorge González and Mónica Guech had something in common so far as that all of them had participated in the national selection to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest. From now on, they are rivals in the Spanish edition of the talent show, The Voice.

The Voice has become the most successful television show among those broadcast in Spain nowadays with an average audience of more than five million viewers. As we reported earlier, Mirela impressed the four coaches at the blind audition at the premiere of the talent show but, having completed this phase, we have seen back on a stage plenty of artists related to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Paco Arrojo, who reached the semifinal round of Misión Eurovisión in 2007, left the four coaches astounded and they all agreed that he had the best voice that had been on that stage so far. He managed to demonstrate all the professionalism that gives his long and fruitful career and the audience burst into applause when he finished his emotional performance. He chose to join the team of David Bisbal.

Ana Santana, also known as Anael, also participated as a member of the duo Ybraem in the quarter-finals of Misión Eurovisión in 2007 and she was also among the semifinalists authors with the song Una Lágrima and she also tried her luck at the virtual casting in 2008. At The Voice, she picked a song that is already a classic at the auditions, the Rolling In The Deep by Adele. From the first verse the coaches shared knowing glances and two of them pressed the button which takes her to the next phase of the competition as a member of Rosario’s team.

Jorge González finished eighth in the final of the Spanish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 singing Si Yo Vengo A Enamorarte and he also took part in the online casting for 2008 and 2010 with Celos and Amada Mía respectively. This is his second chance at a talent show since he participated at Operación Triunfo and three of the coaches wanted him in their teams. Finally he was carried away by his gypsy race and chose the team of Rosario.

Mónica Guess, who participated at the Spanish selection in 2011, chosen another of Adele’s song to impress the coaches and indeed she did with a performance full of strength, which made her a new member of Rosario’s team.

Among them, there are one artist who has performed on an Eurovision stage; Noemí Calumarte, who was one of the backing vocals for D’Nash at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. She took the stage of The Voice playing the guitar and singing Wicked Game by Chris Isaak and with her sweet voice had to wait to the last second of her performance when David Bisbal and Rosario pressed the button.

Since most of them are in the same team will be very likely that in the coming weeks we will see them fighting each other. Stay tuned on EuroVisionary as we guide you through it.
