France Télévisions Decides Against Televised Final

Contrary to rumours that have been circulating in various media previously, French broadcaster France Télévisions have apparently decided against using a televised national final when selecting their successor to last year’s Jessy Matador.

Following revelations that a televised selection was planned for 2012, questions began to arise as to whether France would employ a similar format when selecting this year’s entry. This would have been the first time since 2007, when Les Fatals Picards won on the show Et Si On Gagnait? However, due to changes in the board of the broadcaster, as well as citing that lack of time in organizing such an event in order to meet the EBU deadline meant that for another successive year the French entry will be selected internally.

Despite reverting to a tried and tested selection format, the broadcaster has confirmed that they neverthless are still extremely interested in using a televised format for 2012. This year sees France Télévisions with equally high ambitions in their search for the French particpant, stating that they ideally would like to appoint an artist of the same calibre and profile as Jessy Matador who achieved an 12th position in Oslo last year with Allez! Ola! Olé!
