Various Eurovision sites have been citing young tenor Amaury Vassili as this year’s French entrant for the contest. Reports in the french media have yet however to confirm the story. According to numerous media sources as late as today, it’s still a two horse race between Amaury Vassili and Emma Daumas.
France Télévisions is said to be in the final stages of its choice, with an imminent decision expected. Both singers are quite well known to the general public.
Amaury Vassili is 22 years old and hails from Rouen. He has been interested in music since the age of 9, when his parents enrolled him at a music school. He won his first competition aged 14, singing Amsterdam by Jacques Brel. His main musical influences are said to be Florent Pagny, Il Divo and Josh Groban. He made quite a splash with his debut album Vincero, shifting 200,000 copies. He has also been awarded a platinum disc, his album reaching 5th position in the charts.
Emma Daumas, aged 28 comes from Avignon. She first came to the attention of a wider audience in 2002, when participating in the Star Academy program. Already a competent songwriter and performer, Emma made her first recording aged just 12. In 2000, she came to participate in the Graine De Stars show. Since her appearance on Star Academy, she has had the opportunity to work with major names in the French recording industry, such as Serge Lama, Patrick Bruel and Youssou N’Dour and has already has 4 album releases under her belt.
