Nadine took time out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions about Starmania, law and Helena Paparizou. Nadine is Austria’s first representative in Eurovision since 2007 – they haven’t been in a Saturday night final since 2004, so the pressure is on.
Can you first tell us about how you got involved in ORF’s Starmania back in 2006-07, and what you most enjoyed about that experience?
I was 12 years old when Starmania 1 was on TV and I said, "When I’m 16 I’ll do it"! When i was old enough I went there and made it. I enjoyed most the fact that I was surrounded by musicians and people who loves the music like me. A great experience!
You performed several cover versions during Starmania. Who are your musical influences?

My musical influences are Céline Dion, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston and Beyoncé.
How did you get involved in the selection process for Eurovision in 2011? Can you tell us a bit about how you felt doing so well in the online voting phase, and who you thought your competition might be in the final?

One person in my home village of Inzing asked me if I wanted to register me for the selection. I did and wrote the song "The Secret Is Love" together with Thomas Rabitsch. It was a great feeling to know that I have still so many fans and people who believe in what i am doing! The voting phase was great, there were so many talented musicians involved – I enjoyed this phase very much.

It was such a great show. Ten artists performing their own songs… you can not compare it to Starmania!! And I made it and have the possibility to go to the biggest music contest in the world… I still can’t believe !! :-)))))
Moving onto the contest now, what preparations will you be making? For example, will you be touring Europe to publicise your song, or will you be working in the recording studio?
I will do both! 🙂 We’re planning to do as much as possible
Have you heard any of the other songs in this year’s Eurovision and, if so, do you have any favourites? Does you have any favourite Eurovision songs from previous years?

I like the Greek song from Helena Paparizou "My Number One". And from eurovision 2011 I like – besides many others – the Albanian entry.
What plans does you have after the contest? And besides music, what other interests does you have?
I will work on an album. Aside from music I have started to study law, and I want to continue it!
Thanks for your time, Nadine. Good luck in Düsseldorf.
