Igor Mitrovic is a Macedonian singer who will take a part in Skopje Fest 2010, the national competition for the Eurovision Song Contest. EuroVisionary had a nice conversation with him where he reveals that it is his biggest dream to take part in the Contest, which he is a big fan of.
1. Do you like winter time and the snow fall we’re experiencing?
I can say that winter is my favorite time. I like when snow falls. I would like to have more free time to enjoy in this winter beauty.
2. Would you say you became recognisable to the audience after your third place finish in the 2008 Suncane Skale music festival, in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. Which song you were singing, were you happy with that success?
On festival Suncane Skale, I was singing song called Forever. Composition and arrangement worked Vladimir Dojcinovcki – Dojcin, and lyrics Vesna Malinova. Of course, I am so content with that success, because I didn’t expect so much, honestly. I have to admit that many ways opened to me and since then I become recognizable to Montenegrin and Macedonian audience.
3. This year you are on the list of participants for the Macedonian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest – Skopje Fest 2010. Are you doing it for personal promotion or in hope for winning?
Many things. First I want to promote myself as a singer a bit, I want to promote a song because I love it so much and I think it is one of the best song I have ever sang. And certainly I hope for winning even if I know that will be strong competition, but we will see.
4. Do you watch the Eurovision Song Contest, what do you think about it?
I am a big fan of Eurovision and my biggest dream is, at least once in life, to participate on that scene with good song, which will be like anthem for Europe that year. And today I listen to all these songs that son on Eurovision last years.
5. Do you like the performance of Next Time, the band who represented FYR Macedonia at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest?
I like it as well, as I like every performer from Macedonia who sing on music festivals. Guys from Next Time are young and talented.
6. At Skopje Fest 2010, you will perform song Malecka. Can you tell us something more about song and about team you work with?
I can tell you only that is pop-rock ballad. I am preparing very good performance for Skopje Fest. I want that to be a surprise. Boban Apostolov – Djani worked on music and arrangement, lyrics wrote Dani Hristova. Excellent team and I need to say that I am so happy working with them.
7. How did Dejan Milicevic, a famous director, come to direct your music video?
We know each other from my performances and we stayed in touch, because we are both interesting in cooperation. I did first photo shooting with him, and when Alexandra and I decided to do a video for song "Do you love me" we wanted him to direct video and it turned out great! Dejan is great professional and he is great for work. Of course that our cooperation doesn’t stop here, it goes further.
8. Do you think that it is difficult for someone to become a famous singer these days?
I think that criterion for a good singer is on low leverl, and almost everyone can become a singer, specially if there is money or connections. But good thing is that good voice can be recognized and that good song stays forever.
9. What would it mean to you to win Skopje Fest and go to Oslo, do you hope to win?
As I said a little bit before, all of us who compete, we have hope in ourselves and we do that for victory. So, the answer is yes, there is some hope. Even if I don’t win, I will not be disappointed because competition will be so good. It is important to me that after festival, my song become hit and to be well accepted from the audience.
10. Do you have idols in life or in music?
I think that every singer need to be original, in own way. I can say that I respect a lot of people who make success as Tose Proeski did.
11, Soon is your 19th birthday, do you think that your age might be a problem in your career now, or you will wait few more years and start to work on your music seriously?
I already started, I entered professional in music world and my years don’t make a problem to me, it is opposite. It gives me hope that I have a lot to do in my future and many possibilities for the success.
12. It was a shocking news for all Macedonians and the ex-Yugoslav countries when we heard the tragic news about death of Tose Proeski. You sang his songs at some competitions where he was in the jury. Has it struck youy that he isn’t with us anymore, that he is gone? Can you reconcile with that destiny?
I think that no one who loved Tose, who was growing up with his songs, is not resigned with that what happened. He was a great man, wonderful singer and my tremendous example how someone should act like a star. No one can replace him.
13. Do you have favorites Eurovision Song Contest songs?
Of course I have: Tose Proeski – Life ( Macedonia ), Athena – For real ( Turkey ), Sirusho – Qele, qele ( Armenia ), Luminita Anghel – Let me try ( Romania ), Marija Serifovic – Molitva ( Serbia ), Hari Mata Hari – Lejla ( Bosnia & Herzegovina ) and many more but i can’t write the now…
14. Which question that I haven’t asked you, would you like to ask yourself and what would your answer be?
"If you aren’t a singer, what would you be?" – I like music the most, it’s my life, but I study on college for design and multimedia, so I can say, that is my other love. Everything what is art, it’s me.
