The Finnish national broadcaster revealed the full result of their national selection for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2016. Sandjha who was third in the televoting won the ticket to Stockholm with the support of less than 15% of the total public votes.
The final result of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2016 revealed quite a surprise as the winner Sandjha only received 14,4% of the total votes cast, and that is something which have made the competitors react.
Let’s take things from the beginning. Contrary last year’s edition of UMK, when the jury had only 10% of the votes, in this years edition the vote was 50-50 between the jury and the televote. The jury and the public group each had available 430 points and these were allocated based on the percentages of votes It was clear that Sandhja was jury’s favourite. She won the 12 points from 5 of the 10 jury groups and scored 98 points from them. Mikael Saari who was second by the juries, got the maximum points from 3 jury groups and managed to earn 72 points, 26 points behind Sandhja. Saara Alto was third in juries with 67 points, getting the maximum points from 2 juries.

In televoting things were completely different. The Finns could vote before and during the show. Sandhja who scored 98 points in the juries got only the 14,4% of the Finnish televoting. 14,4% of the total 430 points added another 62 points to her score. Saara Alto who won televoting, got 87 points from the public, from 20,2% of the total 430 public votes. Mikael Saari was second in televoting with 18,4%, or 79 from the total 430 points. In other words Sandhja won the UMK 2016 final due to the points she scored in the 10 jury groups.
