Unser Star für Oslo – First selection for Germany

Germany has taken a new path this year in selecting its representative for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. The new format is called ‘Unser star für Oslo’ and is organised by ARD and NDR in association with private broadcaster ProSieben. Stefan Raab, the three time participant for Germany, is also involved in the German entry again this year.

News about Germany’s preselection plan came shortly after May 25 last year, when state broadcaster ARD/NDR was revealed to have approached Stefan Raab and private broadcaster ProSieben to work along side them in preparing an entry to represent Germany in Oslo.

A total of 20 acts will take part in preliminary shows, the first ten songs were performed on yesterday and five of them qualified for the final. The acts performed popular hits. There were songs from singers and bands such as: Robbie Williams, Evanescence, Seal, Etta James, Eagles, Paolo Nutini, Agnes, Pink, Michael Buble, Adele.

From the ten participants from the first semi-final, tthe qualifiers are:

Kerstin Freaking – My Immortal (Evanescence)

Cyril Kruger – Hotel California (Eagles)

Meri Voskanian – Release Me (Agnes)

Ketrin Walter – Nobody Knows (Pink)

Lena Meyer Landrut – My Same (Adele)

Celebrity judges were Yvonne Catterfeld and Marius Muller-Westernhagen.

The next semi-final will take place on February 9.
