84-year-old Lys Assia, who won the first Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956, wants to return to the competition next year when the contest will be held in Germany. Assia thinks she can get Switzerland back on the Eurovision map.
This year Swiss entrant Michael von der Heide ended last in the second semi-final. His countrywoman Lys Assia, the first winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, is convinced she can give Switzerland a new victory next year. ‘This year the Eurovision Song Contest was again about a song rather than about the show. I’m still very interested in the contest and would like to compete next year. With a good ballad, good backing vocals and good lighting I think I can qualify for the final’, said Assia.
