Eurovision 2013: United Kingdom’s second rehearsal

Bonnie Tyler silenced quite a number of critics following her first run through, with a vastly improved first rehearsal compared to promotional performances she had done in the United Kingdom. With such a lengthy career and stage experience, all eyes were on her today for the second rehearsal. Would people still believe in her?

Bonnie was joined on stage by three guitarists, a drummer and a keyboardist. The staging of the number was unchanged, flame coloured backdrop, use of platform towards the end of the number. Her costume consisted of black leggings paired with a shoulderless black top which looks tattered at the back. A simple silver chain adorns the top just below her shoulder.

She seemed to be really enjoying herself on stage, finishing her first run through with giggles, thanking those present in the arena. She stands still for the best part of her performance yet still commands a fantastic stage presence, using the floor to full effect as she struts down the catwalk on her way to the platform. The wind machine, although done to death with other acts actually works very well here, with a nice, subtle effect as the camera closes in on her for the final shot.

Vocally, she was passable – her first run through was a bit ropey in places, but she gave a better performance second time around. Perhaps she has throat problems, as when she thanked the audience afterwards, she sounded more hoarse than usual, and that’s saying something!
