Our countries are now starting to rehearse for the second time today. First on was the interesting entry from Montenegro. How hadthings changed since Sunday?
A few of the now familiar technical problems affected this rehearsal, meaning they only had three times to sing the song. Before we did, Daddy Cool by Boney M was heard. Had Montenegro changed the song we wondered? Minutes later we had the first run through. Rambo came in on a small trolley an wearing a very long hooded cloak.
As the music kicks in, he threw off the cloak and picked up a green guitar on stage. His three backing dancers were in the costumes too. Two are in dark suits and sunglasses; the third was dressed in red and white. They came out from behind a large donkey. We also have very a rocky looking drummer and guitarist.
As the song goes on, three banners are unfurled and laid on the stage. The dancers break dance and eventually wrap the red and white dancer in one of the banners to carry him off stage.
For the second and third performances the trolley has been ditched and Rambo just walks on stage.
The backdrop is a montage of photographs – women sunbathing, Euro notes, Balkan churches. There’s also a bit of flashing from the spotlights around the stage.
This song has little chance of qualifying and maybe dismissed as a novelty entry. However, the lyric is quite profound and should make people think.
