The results show, of Kdam 2008, took place on Israeli Channel 2 on Tuesday and was hosted by a particularly jolly Tzvika Hadar. It is the first time ever that IBA have relinquished the rights to hold the Israeli national final in any format. IBA will still broadcast the Eurovision itself.
This partnership seems to have worked extremely well for Israel as the five, high quality, songs were received with great enthusiasm from all at the presentation show and during the results show last night. While Bo’az Ma’uda was guaranteed the ticket to Belgrade the stake were high for former Eurovision winner, Dana International, who co wrote the eventual winner. There was also a ticket to Belgrade up for grabs for Oshrat Phapir and Maya Avraham who duetted a song each with Bo’az, unfortunately for the ladies neither were successful.
The presentation show the night before the results programme was star studded one with artists including Eurovision winners Carola, Brotherhood of man and Ralph Siegel. Tonight we saw Ilanit (1973 & 77), Shiri Maimon (2005), Tzvika Pick (composer 1998), Harel Ska’at and 1979 winner Galit Atari all perform to a massively excited Israeli audience.
The voting was completed in sections and featured five juries and a SMS vote. The IBA + Channel 2 jury vote and the SMS vote were weighed to be worth much more than the other juries’ scores. The winning lyricists and composers were delighted with their victory and jumped up to celebrate with Bo’az himself. He too seemed content with the victorious song. The one thing that may differ for Israeli this year from 1998 will be the fact that while Dana may command a level of media attention, this time out it won’t be because of her gender.

In my view
This was a great Kdam and I can see a good result for Israel this year.
