Eurovision 2021: Postcards for semi-final 1

A small house in the middle of different locations in the Netherlands. These are the 2021 Eurovision postcards. Each house features objects, pictures, videos and other memorabilia linked to the artists. We take a look at the ones that accompany the acts in the first semi-final.

The last dress rehearsal took place this afternoon. All the acts performing in this semi-final stepped the Ahoy Arena stage again and, for the postcards for those were aired too. Here’s a quick overview on each of them:

Lithuania: The Roop – Discoteque

The postcard for The Roop was filmed in Rotterdam. Inside the house we can see the pieces of a chess game, hand sculptures doing gestures and the guys from The Roop performing on a TV set.

Slovenia: Ana Soklič – Amen

The house for Slovenian postcard was located in Marker Wadden. In this postcard we can watch a Mona Lisa replica hanging on a wall and a picture of Ana herself posing as Mona Lisa. There are Christmas ball ornaments and pictures of Ana’s pet, her cat. In fact, at the end of the postcard Ana Soklič appears playing with her cat.

Russia: Manizha – Russian Woman

‘s Hertogenbosch was the city for the Russian postcard. We can see Manizha’s performance during her national final. The postcard also features a more intimate aspect of Manizha. There are pizza boxes and a video of Manizha eating pizza and pictures of her family. The postcard also makes reference to Manizha’s story and cultural background.

Sweden: Tusse – Voices

In the Swedish postcard, a number of high school books could not be absent. The reason is, of course, that Tusse is still a student in spite of his music career. We can see footages from Tusse’s winning performance at Melodifestivalen. This postcard took place in Amsterdam.

Australia: Montaigne – Voices

Montaigne, who unfortunately could not be in Rotterdam this year, filmed her postcard in the city of Rotterdam. A picture hanging in the wall referenced her 2020 entry Don’t Break Me. The little house of the postcard is located in the middle of the Sparta football pitch. There is a football game in one of the screens and Montaigne played with a football ball at the end of the postcard.

North Macedonia: Vasil – Here I Stand

This postcard took place in Eext, featuring a dysse which the area is famous for. As part of the house decoration we can see gems, and a climbing wall. The house also contained a video of Vasil’s childhood and a picture of Vasil.

Ireland: Lesley Roy – Maps

Amsterdam was also the location for the Irish postcard. In this postcard we can see a guitar, an arrow on the wall as well as videos of Lesley performing onstage. At the end of the postcard Lesley plays a guitar solo.

Cyprus: Elena Tsagrinou – El Diablo

The Cyprus postcard was film in ‘s Hertogenbosch. In this postcard we can see some footages of Elena’s previous performances. The wall of the house is decorated with graffiti. In addition to this some personal belongings of Elena such as a pass, personal family pics, jewels and weights decorate the house.

Norway: Tix – Fallen Angel

Amersfoort is the location of Tix’ postcard. There is a piano in the tiny house. A video of Tix swimming and a personal picture of himself are part of the decoration. At the end of the postcard we can see Tix wearing his wings and the dress we are already familiar from his performance.

Croatia: Albina – Tick-Tock

Albina’s postcard bring us to Broek op Langedijk. Roses, pictures of Albina’s childhood and a sofa decorate the house for her postcard.

Belgium: Hooverphonic – The Wrong Place

Bourtange is the city in which the Belgium postcard is filmed. A guitar with stickers of the cities Hooverphonic have been on tour, and a guitar case represent the trajectory of the band. There is also a neon sign hanging on the wall.

Israel: Eden Alene – Set Me Free

Utrecht is the city for the Israeli postcard. Ballerina shoes and a video of Eden practising ballet introduce us to Eden as a child. There is also a sudoku game decorating the house.

Romania: Roxen – Amnesia

The location for Roxen’s postcard was Leeuwarden. Roxen’s room had books. Actually, at the end of the postcard we could see her reading one of the books. Personal pictures, a piano and a video of Roxen playing the piano also accompany this postcard.

Azerbaijan: Efendi – Mata Hari

Efendi’s house in this postcard was placed in Giethoorn, known for having more water than roads. We can appreciate footages of Efendi’s music performances. There is also a baking mixer and refrigerators magnets from different cities in the Netherlands. At the end of the postcard Efendi welcome us with a cake she has made.

Ukraine: Go_A – Shum

Similar to Montaigne’s own postcard, Go_A made reference to their national final performance from 2020. The place Go_A’s postcard was filmed in is Veluwezoom. Instruments of the band and pictures of the members of Go_A in black and white as well as female bust decorate the house.

Malta: Destiny – Je Me Casse

In Destiny’s postcard the chosen city to film was Vlissingen. One of the elements that took part in Destiny’s postcard had to be of course, footage of her winning performance at the Junior Eurovision. Personal pictures and make-up from the artist complete the scene of the final postcard of the night.
