Would winning Eurovision be Thea Garrett’s dream?

Malta is always an enthusiastic participant in Eurovision.  Thea put in a powerful performance, but will it be enough?

Thea Garrett took to the stage today with her first rehearsal.  The first thin we noticed was the slightly different orchestration to the national final in Malta.  Her costume for the night is the same silver-grey floor-length dress that she wore for the national final.  She has three backing singers (some have also participated in their own right in Maltese national finals), similarly dressed.  Finally we have the birdman.  He was one of the backing dancers with Vertigo, and today he performed bare-chested, but without the beaked head-dress he’ll probably wear on the night.

The set is dark, with a dozen or so spotlights behind her pulsing dark blue and white.  Copious amounts of dry ice were also visible, but itäs something they need to work on.  During one of the runs through the song Thea was engulfed in it, and had to stop singing.  The backing singers also weren’t totally happy as it was affecting their voices too.  We also saw some pyrotechnics, after the song’s bridge, and also at the end to ensure a big finish.

Will it qualify?  Thea has a very powerful voice for her age, and certainly sells the song.  The birdman makes it memorable too.  But it just seems to be lacking something for now.
