In an attempt to “save” the Eurovision Song Contest, Spain is this year using a different format where the public have had the chance to vote on more than 530 songs. Ten of these have now qualified for the final held on 8th of March.
The selection process Salvemos Eurovisión (Let’s Save Eurovision) might be the most democratic format seen, as the public has been able to vote among all songs sent it via MySpace. First five songs were chosen by the public and now another five songs, chosen by a jury, has been added to the list of participants in the final.
The ten participants:
Rodolfo Chikilicuatre | Baila el ChikiChiki | Chosen by public |
La Casa Azul | La revolución sexual | Chosen by public |
Arkaitz | Un olé | Chosen by public |
Coral | Todo está en tu mente | Chosen by public |
Bizarre | Si pudiera | Chosen by public |
Ell*as | 100% | Chosen by jury |
Null System | Mourning | Chosen by jury |
Marzok Mangui | Caramelo | Chosen by jury |
D-Vine | I do you | Chosen by jury |
Innata | Me encanta bailar | Chosen by jury |
The Spanish final this year will offer a bit of everything; rap, R’n’b, pop, pop/rock, indie pop, latin and metal! Having ended among the last three in the Eurovision Song Contest for the past three years the Spanish selection seems more an attempt to save Spain in Eurovision than saving the entire contest, although with Spain being a so-called Big4 some will claim that the Contest can not survive financially if Spain were to pull out.
