Unser Star für Oslo quarter final in Germany

The quarter final of the German selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, Unser Star für Oslo, was held tonight. The previous rounds were shown on the Pro Sieben channel. Tonight’s show and the final on 12 March 2010 will be shown on Das Erste channel. The semi final will be broadcast on Pro Sieben on 9 March 2010.

Five singers remained after the elimination earlier this week of Leon Taylor. Each act had to perform 2 songs this evening.

The creator of the show, Stefan Raab, was joined on the jury by comedy actress and singer, Anke Engelke, and Adel Tawil from the band, Ich und Ich.

Sharyhan Osman performed You’ve Got The Love, originally a hit by The Source featuring Candi Staton and more recently by Florence & The Machine. This popular club song was performed very well by Sharyhan. Her second song was Never Felt The Way I Feel Today. Sharyhan had composed this song herself. The judges remarked that this song should be in a musical. Stefan imagined it being from a Disney movie.

Jennifer Braun performed Soulmate by Natasha Bedingfield. This lovely ballad was given Jennifer’s own strong vocal performance. The backing band, The Heavytones, played great with this. This would make a great single for Jennifer in the future. Jennifer’s second song was Nobody’s Fool from Anouk. This showed Jennifer’s rock style. Another amazing performance.

Kerstin Freking is really becoming the ‘dark horse’ in this competition. Her first song was If A Song Could Get Me You from Marit Larsen. Kerstin gave a very gentle and angelic vocal performance of this lovely song. Her second song was Somedays by Regina Spektor. Another faultless gentle ballad by Kerstin. If Kerstin gets the ticket to Norway then a gentle ballad would be ideal for her.

Christian Durstewitz, the only guy left in the competition. Christian’s first song was Ochrasy by Mando Diao. This song was a ballad and he gave a good interpretation of this song. His next song was Stalker. Christian wrote this song himself. This was an uptempo and catchy, rock style song that would also make a good single for the future.

Lena Meyer-Landrut, the big favourite to win the competition. Lena’s first song was Mouthwash by Kate Nash. Another unique performance by Lena that had the crowd applauding and cheering loudly. Her second song was Neopolitan Dreams by Lisa Mitchell. This song was not as upbeat but Lena again made this song her own. Another wonderful performance.

Whilst the televotes were being counted Ich und Ich performed their song, Einer Von Zweien.

So, to the results. Through to the semi final are Christian Durstewitz, Lena Meyer-Landrut, Jennifer Braun and Kerstin Freking.

Sharyhan Osman was voted out of the show tonight.
