United Kingdom viewing ratings down! What happens next?

The viewing ratings in the United Kingdom were down considerably from 2009 to 5.54 million.  This could have been due to lack of promotion and also the fact the show was up against the popular ITV series, Britain’s Got Talent.

Josh Dubovie finished bottom for the United Kindom in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest with That Sounds Good To Me.  Josh gave a fine performance but many viewers and fans felt the song was outdated and not relevant in today’s music industry.  Ironically, Germany won the contest with Satellite by Lena Meyer-Landrut, ironically a ‘British sounding’ song.

The popular talent show, Britain’s Got Talent, won the ratings battle on 29 May 2010.  One of the finalists, Christopher Stone, has revealed in The Sun newspaper that he would like to represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision.  Christopher is a classical singer but would love to do a crossover song for the Eurovision.

The Sun newspaper also revealed this week that the Xenomania writing team behind acts such as Girls Aloud, Gabriella Cilmi and Mini Viva had agreed to write the 2010 United Kingdom entry.  However, after a dispute over radio airplay they withdrew their offer.

In 2011 the United Kingdom must come back stronger and take the competition more seriously if they are to have any chance of doing better.  Hopefully, the BBC are working on a plan already.
