The swedish selection for Eurovision,
Melodifestivalen, will undergo some changes in the rules. One of the
news for next year was announced by SVT today: One of the competing songs will be selected by the web visitors – The web wildcard.
The web wildcard is described by SVT as a way for new upcoming songwriters to grab a spot in the competition.
The web wildcard will be a competition open for everyone who do not have, or ever had, a music publishing agreement. The authors of the song may also not have published any songs on any kind of media before which means that the competition will be open only for amateur participants.
The competition for one of the slots in Melodifestivalen 2010 starts on 21st september when songwriters will be able to submit their entries. The last date for submitting a song will be the 4th october.
Between the 14th october and the 12th november the songs will be available for the audience at svt.se/melodifestivalen. During this period the public will be able to vote by SMS-voting.
The winner will be declared on the 12th november and take one of the 32 slots open for Melodifestivalen 2010.
"This chance for new upcoming authors to blossom in Melodifestiavlen and become stars over one night can make TV-magic" says the producer of Melodifestivalen, Christer Björkman.
