Slovakia’s broadcaster RTVS has announced more details of its selection for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest held in Düsseldorf, Germany. The 18th of February is the date to mark in your calendar.
Slovakia, like the UK, will select its song for Düsseldorf completely internally this year. Financial constraints at RTVS meant that a public selection process, as in 2009 and 2010, unlikely. The act and song will be revealed on Friday 18 February.
As you may know, Slovakia was eventually persuaded to participate in Eurovision after previously announcing its withdrawal. The main reason was cost – a merger had taken place between Slovak Radio (Slovenský Rozhlas) and Slovak Television (Slovenský Televízia) and a change in management initially made participation unlikely.
Slovakia failed to reach the final in Oslo with the song Horehronie.
