Among the singers in the Artisti section of the 2011 Sanremo Festival is Roberto Vecchioni with his song, Chiamami Ancora Amore (Love Still Calls To Me). It is one of the most popular songs among the audience in the Teatro Ariston. It is also the only political song in the festival.
Yesterday, La Repubblica nespaper published an interview with Roberto,
in which he taks about the problems facing his beloved Italy.
Among other things, his song talks about students, workers and inmmigrants. In an interview titled Vecchioni e la morte della cultura (Vecchioni and the death of culture), he explains his reasons for writing the song. “When you see children arriving on boats, our soldiers dying in an absurd war, as all wars are, the students that rebel against he lack of culture, there is no need to say “they have reasons.” This is the central theme of the song. We have totally forgotten the culture in Italy. It is the fault of the state, who has let it happen and a government who sees things in a different way. It is a song of love for humanism.
Towards the end of the interview, he was asked if he will talk about love again in his songs. He said “There are many ugly reasons that, in life, make you draw from your experiences. It is for this reason that you continue to talk about love. Not love that is taken for granted, but love that has a little magic, when you talk about it, it happens."
