Red Hurley has announced that he is to be re-married to his ex-wife Norma in September of this year. The singer had only finalised his divorce at the beginning of this year.
He confirmed the news in a recent RTE interview with Miriam O’Callaghan.
Red Hurley represented Ireland at the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest with the Brendan Graham song ‘When’. Red has continued to have success in both Ireland and America up to the present day.
Also in the interview he discussed his experience at the 1976 contest describing it as "a wonderful experience really. It was nerve wrecking at the time because I was only a kid really". He went on to say that "it [Eurovision] was a daunting thing in those days but I enjoyed it and it was good fun".
He talked candidly about his career in Las Vegas following Eurovision and the depression he suffered as a result of the failure of a show. After the show, in which he was heavily invested, went under due to an air traffic controller strike he was left penniless and faced into a depression that lasted nearly 18 months. He said "it took me by surprise how badly it affected me".
His current career in America was another topic of discussion and he talked about his upcoming appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show. He explained that a meeting with Dr. Maya Angelou brought him to the attention of the American Chat show host. After his first meeting with Dr. Angelou he was invited to sing at her 80th birthday and has been promised a slot on arguably the most popular chat show in the world.
