In the first minutes of 2011 in Turkey, national broadcaster TRT announced the name of the Turkish representative who will be participating in Düsseldorf: Yüksek Sadakat. This exclusive news caused a big reaction in the Turkish media.
Today, most of the television channels and media sources reported that TRT’s decision as a bit surprising. Despite the members being quite professional in their music careers, it is thought that the group doesn’t have a sufficient background. Yüksek Sadakat have only 2 albums and each album was made by different vocalists. The common opinion of the Turkish media is that TRT made a risky choice.
Even only a day after the official announcement, fans have organised many anti-TRT groups on public websites such as Facebook. TRT has had a fan poll each year to assess public opinion. Though many big names have been put forward by fans such as Tarkan, Atiye and Hande Yener who have better backgrounds in terms of their music careers, TRT’s choice was made after views by some names at the music department were known.
On the other hand, Yüksek Sadakat have just announced that they will release an album in early January. According to the groups official announcement that they received the offer just the day before, the media has a theory that someone was charged to make TRT’s choice on group, and the group will use one of the songs from their new album. They also mentioned that group has stated that they will choose a Turkish song.
Today, a famous music department in Turkey, Avrupa Müzik, has officially announced on twitter that TRT made an offer to one of their famous musicians to represent their country at the contest, but they surprisingly changed their minds back to Yüksek Sadakat unprofessionally.
A TRT spokesperson said that Eurovisiondream is officially one of the fan portals of TRT. Today, the website of Eurovisiondream announced through their facebook portal that any fans who want to make a complaint or has a suggestion to the channel can send mail to these departments to those responsible:
Mr. İbrahim Şahin – Manager
Zeynel Koç – Assistant Manager
Deniz Çakmakoğlu – Head of music department
Ümran Sönmezer – Music department
The procedure of the Turkish entry for the contest has also been decided. The group will present three songs and an expert group will decide which song will represent country’s honour and more news about the song /song title will be announced till February.
