Raphael Gualazzi Returns to the Sanremo Festival

Earlier today, Italian broadcaster, RAI, released the names of the fourteen singers and the songs they will perform in the 2013 Sanremo Festival. Among the names is Raphael Gualazzi, who represented Italy in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.

The 63rd festival, which will the held at the Teatro Ariston, the home of the festival since 1977, starts on February 12th and continues each night that week, climaxing on Saturday 16th February.

As well as Rafael Gualazzi, whose success sprung from winning the section for new artists in the 2011 Sanremo Festival, the line-up includes former winners Annalisa and Simone Cristicchi. There could be some very interesting songs and performances to look forward to as among the list of participants are Max Gazze’ and Elio e le Storie Tese, who dressed as aliens when they last competed in the festival in 1996.

In what would be a new direction for Sanremo, it appears that each act in the ‘Campioni’ section will perform two songs. There will also be the opportunity for a new star to be born when eight singers compete for the ‘Giovani’ prize.

Most Italian representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest have been chosen from the festival, it has yet to be confirmed whether this method will be used this year.

A full list of singers and songs can be found at the RAI Sanremo 2013 website.
