Balladeers 3+2 were back today for their second rehearsal. They were in good spirits at their party last night, so would this show?
Belarus means business this year. Their extensive publicity machine has been in overdrive, and they hosted a very successful party at the Euroclub the night before. They want to win and show us the delights of Minsk in 2011.
This has many good ingredients. It’s a very jury-friendly song. It’s a contrast after the rock and rap of FYR Macedonia. They all have good voices which this song demonstrates well.
But (there’s always a ‘but’) they have slightly questionable English accents; even more so than Russia. And then there are the winged dresses for gold, silver and bronze. It’s a brave move, but when the wings appear it could also be a massive turn off for the viewers of Europe. Whether we need them is questionable.
All of those points aside, given the opposition in this semi-final, we should be seeing Belarus make their second Eurovision Final.
