After the choice of Copenhagen to host next year’s Eurovision Song Contest Danish fans were looking forward to finding out in which city the national final would be held. Today came the announcement that it will Odense to host Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.
It is 20 years ago since Odense, Funen last hosted the Danish final, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, but DR is not in doubt that the city has what it takes to host the event again. DR’s entertainment editor Rasmus Ladefoged says: "We know that Odense can take on this task and create the frames for a super nice show and a big party for the everyone".
Odense themselves are also looking forward to it. Mayor Anker Boye adds: "On Funen we like to party and we invite the entire Denmark to two fantastic events, which without doubt will enthusiast children and adults".
The two shows the Mayor is talking about is first the Danish final held on the 8th of March and second the Danish junior final on the 15th of March. It is tradition in Denmark that the same city will host both shows, with one week in between. Both shows will be held in Arena Fyn, which can host op to 5000 spectators.
Fans might notice that it is quite late the Danish final in 2014 will be held as it usually takes place in January or early February. It will mean that the risk of the usual snow for the final is lower, but it however now means that the Danish and the Swedish final will collide with each other next year.
On the 1st of October 2013 a press conference with more details will be held at Odense Rådhus.
