The 24 songs that are competing for a spot in Festival Da Canção 09 has been made public. All songs can be heard online and votes are accepted until 30th of January. The twelve songs that receive the highest amounts of votes will compete in the Portuguese final the 27th of February.
RTP received approximately 400 songs via their open selection. 24 of these will now be battling in a semi-final format on the internet. Everyone is free to vote with max. 3 votes per IP address. When the voting closes on 30th of January the 12 songs with most votes will continue to the national final Festival Da Canção on 27th of February. The winner of the national final will of course be representing Portugal at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow.
The list of participants reveals two interesting names in relation to the Eurovision Song Contest. Nucha who represented Portugal back in 1990 will be singing the song Tudo Está na Tua Mão. Luciana Abreu represented Portugal in 2005 as one half of 2B. This year she will be trying solo with the song Juntos Vamos Conseguir (Yes We Can).
