Melody y Los Vivancos, La la love you and Noelia Cano to the Spanish final after marathon show!

In a very long first semi-final Spain selected three acts to continue in the running to represent the country at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Melody y Los Vivancos, La la love you and Noelia Cano won the three spots. The jury and the televoting didn’t always agree, but it ended up being the top three from the juries going through.

The show opens with a Spanish rock version of ABBA’s winning song Waterloo by the band Teqila. Words like interesting, funny and cool will be fighting about being the best to describe this version.

While four jury  members are being presented a guitar version of Te Deum plays in the background. It sounds very much like the one that kicked off the 2009 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. The jury is however not complete. Five men are competing for a seat in the jury. They all present themselves explaining why people should vote for them. One of them makeshimself noticed when he falls of the stage and down on the audience who helps him up again!

Now we are ready for the 10 songs to be performed.

1. Yulia Valentayn – Uh La La: She is dressed in a grey top and a short shirt with strips in dark blue, grey and red. The song, from time to time, reminds a little bit of Denmark’s 1995 entry Fra Mols Til Skagen.

2. La Red de san Luis – Gracias, Madre Tierra (Thank you, mother Earth): Here we have three guys dressed in dark suits. It is a musical style and it does indeed sound like The Gods Love Nubia from the musical Aida.

3. Vicente Casal – Tú Me Complementas (You supplement me): Male singer dressed in grey trousers, pink skirt and a black jacket. A male/female couple is dancing in the background. This singer has quite a good contact with the audience closest to the stage.

4. Noelia Cano – Cruza Los Dedos (Cross your fingers): Female singer dressed in a dress with black leather corset and a purple/black skirt. She is sourounded by four male dancers and maybe that is distracting her as she clearly has problems hitting all the right notes. The skirt is taken off near the end in a Marie N copy style.

5. Carlos Ferrer Eai – El Patito (The little duck): Male singer with a guitar with a duck attached, Four men gives a theater styled performance in the background.

6. La la love you – Dame Un Beso (Give me a kiss): Male punk band all dressed in blue jeans and pink t-shirts with a heart on them. This leads people to think of Anonymous who represented Andorra in 2007. A female school-girl dances around and at the end of the song she kisses the lead singer.

7. Normativa Vigente – Alejandría, The New Generation: A band of five men all casual dressed. The song is partly in English and comes across as one which could do well internally due to a catchy chorus where Oh Oh is being repeated enough times for people to automatically sing a long to it.

8. Atalis – Retrato Frontal (Frontal portrait): This is hard to describe, but the clothes leads one to think of Dracula being into SM! The music however is quite different being a bit of melodius rock with a few hints of rap.

9. Melody y Los Vivancos – Amante de la Luna (Lover of the Moon): This is one of the biggest favourites. Technical problems in the beginning does that they have to start all over. The female singer wearing a short black top and tight black trousers, both having a little discret red strip to it. She is backed up by five male acrobad dancers dressed in black trousers and open leather versts which they later take off. The sound is very Spanish and she is popular with the audience.

10. Gran Baobab – Despedida De Soltero (Stag night): This band has dressed up in various ways: confetti in the tie, hat with polka dots scarf etc. They use falling confetti all through the song and is also quite popular among the audience.

After all ten songs have been performed the last jury member is now chosen with combined jury and televoting. Victor M Escudero wins the five points from the jury and with three from the audience he is now being seated as the 5th jury member.

We are now being taken to greenroom which in Spain is called Chillout! The female host is changing clothes in the meanwhile as soon she is back on stage performing herself in a new outfit.

Afterwards she talks to the jury for about half an hour before we are ready for a result:

With votes from all five jury members Melody y los Vivancos recieves 58 points. This is being calculated into 12 points. La La Love You gets 47 points in total from the jury which is being calculated to 10 points. The 8 points from the juries goes to Noelia Cano with a total of 35 points.

Before it is time for the televoting results the rock band Teqila who opended the show is back with a song called Salta. It is extremely popular among the audience who all dances to it.

And now the moment we have all been waiting for. The televoting results are ready and soon we will know which three acts can continue to the Spanish final. Melody y los Vivancos also recieves maximum 12 points from the televoting bringing her up to 24 points. Noelia Cano gets 10 points which for her means a total of 20. Both are through to the final. The televoting differs with the third poition as Gran Baobab recieves 9 points this way. As they only got 2 points from the jury they don’t reach more than 10 in total and with Noelia Cano getting 8 from the jury and three from the televoting she is through to the final with 11 points in total.
