Tonight, national broadcaster ERR’s ETV has held Estonian national final that is called Eesti Laul for the Eurovision Song Contest which will take part in Oslo this year. Malcolm Lincoln won the competition where ten acts participated for the ticket of Oslo.
This year a record submission of songs (155) for the national final were received by ERR. Ten songs were chosen by an expert jury who were also voting for tonight’s selection. Estonia has high hopes after Urban Symphony took a good placing with the new voting system at the Eurovision Song Contest.
This year’s Eesti Laul, made by Estonian national broadcaster ETV, took place at Nokia Concert Hall in Tallinn. Märt Avandi and Ott Sepp were the hosts of the show that started at 20.30 CET.
After the announcing the procedure of tonight’s show, the songs were performed:
3 Pead – Poolel Teel: The first act of the night was an electronic and techno song which was performed by 3 Pead. The group showed a good performance though it was a national final. That could do well!
Marten Kuningas & Mahavok – Oota Mind Veel: The second act of the night was another up tempo song that was performed by the duo Marten and Mahavok. The song also includes rock elements beside electronic and techno music. That song was very repetitive after Poolel Teel.
Mimicry – New: We were turning to English instead of Estonian at the third performance of the night. New was another up tempo song after previous two acts and Mimicry gave a solid performance on the stage. I could understand why Estonians really had high hopes tonight.
Tiiu Kiik – The One and Only Love: Tiiu has given the first ballad performance at Eesti Laul 2010. We can say we watched a good performance although we did not have a clear stream from Estonia tonight.
Violina feat. Rolf Junior – Maagiline Päe : Violina and Rolf performed their song Maagiline Pae in high spirits at tonight’s show. We can say that was one of tonight’s the best performances at Eesti Laul up to now. That’s for sure that their performances were very strong. That takes very good reaction from the audiences.
Disko 4000 – Ei Usu: Disko 4000 did not show anything in higher quality at the selections tonight. Ei Usu was another up tempo song that did not have anything special in it. Probably that is not the winner.
Iiris Vesik – Astronaut : After a weak performance, Iiris’ song was trying to hold the things up. Astronaut was very catchy in a different flavoured taste tonight as the song is a bit similar to Icelandic entry of 2010.
Lenna Kuurmaa – Rapunzel : It was time to turn into pop style in Talinn with Lenna. Her song was very interesting with its ethnic elements. If we give an anectode, Rapunzel was tipped to win the title by Estonian media and Eurovision.tv.
Due to technical problems on the webstream of ETV, the last two acts could only be seen via TV stream. After all the songs are performed Urban Trad and gave a mini concert while the televoting and jury votes were counted live on the scoreboard. According to second televoting results, Malcolm Lincoln won Eesti Laul 2010 and his song Siren will be representing Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest which will be held in Oslo this may.
Last year, Urban Symphony participated at the Eurovision Song Contest with their song Raendajad; the girl group brought a memorible 6th back to Estonia. As you will remember, Estonia won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001 when Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2xl performed Everybody.
