Live: Grand Prix Vorentscheid 2008

Last year Roger Cicero ended 19th in the final. Tonight five names will compete for the chance to prove that they can do better than that in Belgrade in May.

20:20:35 – Ruslana performs totally dressed in red her Eurovion Song Contest winner Wild Dances, followed by 1999 winner Charlotte Perrelli and her Take Me To Your Heaven. Charlotte is dressed in a short blue dress.

20:23:58 – Mari Serifovic enters the stage and songs Molitvawhich brought her the Eurovision Song Contest victory last year.

20:25:37 – The three Eurovision winners hug each other on stage and leaves, The hosts introduce the guests with former Eurovision participant Katja Ebstein as the most significant one.

20:31:50 – They talk about Eurovision and their favourite songs. The host Thomas Hermans sings Hold Me Now and Katja sings Puppe de cire. Afterwards they turn into the Danish Eurovision winner from 2000 Fly on the wings of love and ABBA’s Waterloo from 1974.

20:37:58 – The first participant Marquess enters the stage. Their song La Histeria is sung in Spanish. They band is quite cool and secure in their stage performance with the lead singer reminding a bit of Malta’s Fabrizio Faniello.

20:45:58 – Tommy Reeve sings Just one woman sitting at his paino. It is a ballad which is nice enough, but seems not to leave too much impression among the audience. 

20:54:25 – Cinema Bizarre, a band consisting of five members most of them dressed in white, the others in black, sing their song Forever or Never. The leadsinger reminds a bit of Swedish Melodifestival participant The Ark. They bring an easy-listening rock song.

20:59:31 – Carolin Fortenbacher sings Hinterm Ozean, an enchanting balled. She is dressed in black. Carola’s wind machine is now in Hamburg, although it isn’t blowing at full power. As the only one so far, this actually looks like a typical Eurovision performance. After her performance she is hugged and congratulated on a superb performance by Katja Ebstein.

21:04:03 – No Angels are about to perform their song Disappear.

21:07:29 – The group consists of four sexy dressed girls, they entered the stage lifted up from an underground platform. The style of their song reminds of Irish band The Corrs, with some added R’n’B influances.

21:09:14 – The audience cheer so much after the latest performance that the band No Angels can barely get down to the obligatorical talk to the host.

21:10:31 – Thomas Hermanns announces that it is now time from the first voting round which will decide which three songs will qualify to the Super Final.

21:19:44 – After a talk with the guests, the hosts walks around the theatre at which the national final is held. He meets up with screaming fans who have apparently been standing behind a barely closed door all the time. They are holding posts with their favourite participants. After that he joins up with the participants in the greenroom, which has white/black marmor on the walls and red sofas.

21:24:17 – Each of the participants is being given 10 seconds to convince the voting audience to vote for them.

21:26:01 – Roger Cicero is welcomed to the stage in his trademark white suit. He walks among the cheering audience before he enteres the platform where the host and guests are waiting. Music from West Side Story is being played by the orchestra, going over to him walking to the stage where he sings his 2007 German winning song Frauen Regier’n Die Welt.

21:29:36 – A sign on the TV screen indicates that the voting lines are now closed.

21:32:39 – Roger walks down back to the platform with the host and the guests. Roger is being asked how it feeels to back, he answers that it all looks the same so it’s a pleasent feeling. Then he talks about his experience in Helsinki, which he described as being a hectic but interesting week.

21:34:00 – All five particpants are being asked to the stage for the result of the first voting round. While they are walking up the stage, their respective songs can be heard.

21:40:04 – Carolin Fortenbacher and No Angels are qualified for the Super Final. The winner of the 2008 German final will be decided among them. The host announces the new phone numbers and second round of voting begins. He jokes that if you want to vote for Reeve you have not understood the system.

21:43:03 – The host talks to Katja Ebstein about her Eurovision Song Contest experience. Her performances are being shown in the background.

21:46:09 – The guests perform a medley of Katja Ebstein’s songs. Kim Fischer sings Diese Welt. Tetje Mierendorf and Kim Fischer perform Wunder Gibt Es Immer Wieder. Marc Bator joins the stage and alltogther they start singing Theater but are interruped by Katja herself who steps in and finishes the song with them.

21:51:36 – Carolin and No Angels return to the stage for the final results.

21:52:43 – While the Orchestra plays Te Deum, Roger Cicero enters the stage with the envelope containing the result.

And the winner is…

 

NO ANGELS

21:55:22 – Germany’s 2008 Eurovision Song Contest particpant No Angels perform their song Disappear while the closing credits roll over the TV screen.
