For some, it is the perfect result, for others, it is the worst possible outcome. The hopes of the most victorious Eurovision country rest this year on the shoulders, breasts and wings of a turkey. For a country known for giving us sincere ballads, this is somewhat of a departure.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5live this morning, a member of the team which selected the six songs defended Dustin’s presence, saying it gives the public a different choice from that which is normally put in front of them. It remains to be seen whether his popularity will travel. He might be very popular in Ireland but no-one east of the Irish Sea has heard of him.
The winning reprise was greeted with a mixture of cheers and boos, perhaps confirming the love or hate status of the song.
