Hosts Press Conference

Our three hosts for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest had a press conference today, telling us about the rivalry between Düsseldorf and Köln, how scared they were, and Pippa Middleton.

Stefan Raab, Anke Engelke and Judith Rakers are our three hosts this year, and will host all three shows.  Stefan we all know as the writer of the German songs in 1998 and 2004, and singer-songwriter in 2000.  He also mentored Lena.

Canadian-born Anke answered some questions in various European accents, to prove that she can cope with the task ahead.  She mentioned that Stefan didn’t realise women needed time to look their best.  However, Stefan revealed he’d wear Pippa Middleton’s bridesmaid dress, just to get some interest in the contest.

One of the journalists working for an Australian organisation handed our hosts a piece of paper.  On it were words that every Aussie Eurovision would love to hear, "Australia twelve points, Australie douze points, Australien zwölf Punkte".  Maybe one day.  Raab was asked about whether the German language would ever feature in Germany’s entries in the future.  He jokingly told us that he’ll be back with Wadde hadde dudde da Part II which would be in German.

Despite a few problems with the rehearsals, all three hosts assure us that they are not scared, and the rehearsal does not compare with the live shows.

Two of our hosts are residents of Köln, and they were asked about the rivalry between the two cities.  All we were told is that if there is any rivalry, we may have to wait to the live shows to hear whether it’s mentioned.

Finally, Stefan reminded us he won €10,000 on Germany’s win last year.  He’d told Lena to just go and enjoy herself.  The money’s now gone, but his advice to Lena (and all the other performers), is exactly the same.

In my view

There is a good chemistry between the three hosts this year, so it promises to be a good show.
