Tonight, the final of Festival da Canção, the Portuguese national selection was held. The winner will become the their 44th representative for the Eurovision song contest in Oslo on May.
The final was hosted by Silvia Alberto at the Campo Paqueno in Lisbon who also was in charge of the first and second semi-finals. Twelve songs were performed in tonight’s Portugal final.
The show opened with a performance from the Voca people.
The participants:
1.Filipa Galvão Telles – O amor não sab
The vocal performance is emotional. There are three backing vocalists and one male dancer.
2.Banda Trocopasso – O mundo de pernas para o ar
An uptempo song on the stage.
3.Jorge Guerreiro – Ai Lisboa
This is a nice salsa song. Jorge wore a silver suit on the stage.
4.Ricardo Martins – Caminheiro de mim
Ricardo was on the stage with a keyboard. He is the first blind singer in the history of Festival da Canção.
5.The Agency – É assim que as coisas são
Its a slow song and there is a piano on the stage. The members of The Agency are dressed in black suits and white shoes.
6.Seis Po’ Meia Dúzia – Pássaro saudade
This is an ethnic uptempo song. There are six girls and their dresses are very nostalgic and they don’t wear shoes on the stage.
7.Nuno Pinto – Fogo lento
Nuno Pinto is singing a mid-tempo song now. There are four girl backing vocalists on the stage.
8.Catarina Pereira – Canta por mim
This is my favourite song. This an energetic up tempo song. It reminds of Ani Lorak’s and Helena Paparizou’s performances at the Eurovision Song Contest.
9.Filipa Azevedo – Há dias assim
It’s a slow song. There is male at the piano and Filipa is singing passionately on the stage.
10.Gonçalo Tavares – Rios
An uptempo song. Gonçalo is playing piano and singing. There are four women backing vocalists. Gonçalo is wearing a black suit on the stage. The background images are sweet.
11.Vanessa – Alvorada
This is really a nice ballad song. Vanessa has got a strong voice.
12.Rui Nova – Uma canção à Cid (O sol e as estrelas)
The last song is a mid-tempo song. There are four backing vocalists. The stage is red.
The voting:
All acts have now performed and the voting is starting together with a recap of songs being shown on TV. Fernando Tordo came on the stage. He represented Portugal in 1973 at the Eurovision Song Contest. Now 20 regional juries gave their verdicts. Filipa Azevedo won the jury voting.
Flor de lis, the 2009 Portugal contestants, performed.
And the winner is Filipa Azevedo – Há dias assim. She will represent Portugal in Oslo.
The best Portugal result was in Oslo on 1996 with "o meu coraçao nao tem cor". Lucia Moniz finished 6th with 92 points. This year Portugal will participate in the first semi-final.
