ERR, the Estonian broadcaster, has announced the start of their national final, called Eurolaul, today. On February 12th and February 19th there will be two semi-finals with a total of 20 songs. These entries, which can be submitted until December 17th, 2010, will be chosen by an internal jury.
Five songs of each semi final will proceed to the big final, which will be held on February 26th, 2011. The songs that will enter the final will be decided by a 50/50 split of jury vote and televoting. Among the ten finalists, two songs will again be elected by a jury and televoting. These two songs will proceed to a so called ‘super final’ where the winner will finally be decided by 100% televoting.
After a very successful period between 1996 and 2002, Estonia did not have much success in the following years. The 6th place of the group Urban Symphony in 2009 has been their only performance in a Eurovision final since 2003.
