El Sueño De Morfeo will represent Spain at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest

The band led by Raquel del Rosario has been internally selected to represent Spain in Malmö. The official announcement was made this evening at the TVE programme called + Gente where the three members of the group said that they are very excited about this challenge and they are working on the songs.

Much has been speculated in recent days about who would fly the Spanish flag in Malmö. It seemed clear that would have to be one of the artists of the label Warner as happened last year with Pastora Soler. All the names were in the polls but gradually, one after another were denying the rumours. Among them was a group, El Sueño De Morfeo, whose name sounded very strong and they never denied that they were the chosen ones so the rumour became the hot topic all day today in the social networks in Spain.

TVE confirmed this morning that the announcement would be made late in the afternoon at the TV show + Gente hosted by Anne Igartiburu around 20:00 CET. And so it was. After creating lot of expectation from the beginning of the program then appeared on set the three members of the well-known band El Sueño de Morfeo (Morpheus’ Dream) Raquel del Rosario, Juan Luis Suárez and David Feito.

They said they feel very happy and excited. They had never considered to do so and it is a challenge for them. When they got the news they have confessed that even burst into a fit of laughter because they did not expect it at all.
They said that in recent days they have been suffering because they can not tell anyone about the news but they have been working on the candidate songs so it is also confirmed that they will be the authors of this year’s Spanish entry. They have anticipated that they will try to compose something with a Celtic pop style that characterizes them.

This pop band was founded in 2002 and their first single, Nunca Volverá, which had a Celtic folk sound, was one of the best sellers in 2005 which led them to record their first album released in the mid of that year. Their second single, Ojos De Cielo, consolidated their place in the Spanish charts and their second studio album, Nos Vemos En El Camino (See You In The Way), was released in April 2007. Two years later came the third one called Cosas Que Nos Hacen Sentir Bien (Things That Make Us Feel Good). Their fourth album, Buscamos Sonrisas (We Are Looking For Smiles), was released earlier this year and they are currently preparing their fifth musical work.

In addition, they have performed hundreds of concerts in Spain and Latin America, they have recorded songs for TV commercials, movie soundtracks for Disney’s films such as Cars or The Little Mermaid and TV series like the popular Los Serrano (which had great success in Spain early 2000s and it has been also broadcast in different European countries). The vocalist, Raquel del Rosario, has sung several hits in a duet with the best artists of the Spanish music scene and in February 2011, she participated at the popular Sanremo Festival alongside the Italian artist Luca Barbarossa achieving the second place in their category.

The entry that they will perform will be chosen among several songs as was done last year with Pastora Soler. After the success of Quédate Conmigo as precedent, this year also the Spanish audience may participate in the song selection process. The candidate songs will be announced first through the RTVE’s website and subsequently, there will be a tv show where El Sueño De Morfeo will sing live all the songs and the viewers and a professional jury will pick the winning entry to represent Spain at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.
