Dansk Melodi Grand Prix wins the TV Event of the Year award

In Denmark the national final is traditionally quite popular with high viewing figures and a best selling CD and now the 2011 edition of the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix has just been awarded with the prize for best TV event in Denmark. That happed at the annually TV festival held in Copenhagen.

The two days TV festival was held in Tivoli, which also hosted the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest, handed out awards to the TV stations for their work in the past year. In style with the Oscar for films it includes awards for best female host, best male host, best documentary, best drama, best children programme etc. And also one for best TV event – which went to DR, the Danish broadcaster, for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2011.

A national final in Denmark has in general around 70% in marketshare and the following CD with all ten participating songs is among the best selling albums – and next year is not expected to be any different. The 2012 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will take place in Aalborg on the 21st of January 2012 where the Danish population will pick the song that will try to do even better than Chanée & N’evergreen‘s 4th place in 2010 and A Friend In London‘s 5th place from May this year with the song New Tomorrow

On their twitter profile A Friend In London commented on the award as best TV event by saying: "Proud to have tributed to this: Yesterday at the Danish TV festival – Danish Eurovision Song Contest 2011 won the price for best TV EVENT 2011"
