Gaitana’s Eurovision Song Contest entry already have a football theme to it, but she has also released an actual support song for Euro 2012. In a tough group the Ukrainian national team now needs all the support they can get before their last match against England tonight.
At this year’s Eurovision Song Contest Ukraine was represented by Gaitana singing Be My Guest. The video had a clear reference to Ukraine hosting Euro 2012 and there was talk about this song therefore being used as an official song. That never happend and the singer has released another football song under the title You Are The Champion.
About the new song Gaitana says: "My dear friends! I’m honored to present you You Are the Champion, my new song, which I’d like to dedicate to all football teams taking part in Euro 2012 and to all fans. I hope this song will inspire and cheer you up. We’re all champions in this World, each of us deserves to be a winner, so believe in yourselves and never stop trying to reach your goals!"
She adds that the song is inspired by the Klitschko brothers, two Ukrainian heavyweight boxers, but tonight it will be the Ukrainian national team that requires all her support. In their first match Ukraine won against Sweden, but then lost to France in the second. Tonight when the team plays against England they need to win in order to continue to the quarterfinal stage. Being on homefield they will be able to count on a lot of support – and one of those will be Gaitana who describes herself as a big football fan.
