Today the songs for this years Danish national final were leaked as Sony accidently released the official CD too soon. This brings us the 10 participants for the national selection. As usual it is a good mix of well established and unknown names promising an interesting national final taking place on the 7th of February in Aalborg.
After the announcement of the hosts Jacob Riising and Esben Bjerre at the end of November, revealed are now the 10 acts, which will compete to represent Denmark at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria. As usual it is mix of established names and new comers. The songs were to be officially presented on Monday, but as fans recieved their pre-ordered CD’s from Sony today naturally it is no longer a secret.
Best known in among the participants are Anne Gadegaard, who won the Danish Junior M:G:P final in 2003 with the song Arabiens Drøm, and Marcel Gbekle, known from X-factor and as one of Basim’s backing singers last year in Cpoenhagen. Another of those, Andy Roda, is also taking part this year Melodi Grand Prix.
Also interesting for fans is the girlband World of Girls. They are
created and mentored by René Dif. He was a part of the very well known
band Aqua, who performed as interval act at Eurovision Song Contest
2001.
Well known songwriters
Among the songwriters we also find well established names, and three Eurovision winners – Lise Cabble, Remee, Lars "Chief 1" Pedersen, Thomas G:son, Henrik Sethsson, Alexander Papaconstantinou, Arash, Marcos Ubeda among otheres.
Lise has written many Melodi Grand Prix entries and won the Danish national final three times; in 1995 for Aud Wilken, 2011 for A Friend In London and in 2013 her song Only Teardrops sung by Emmelie De Forest won Eurovision.
Remee wrote the German entry in 2008 Disappear for No Angels, and Chief 1 wrote Stemmen I Mit Liv performed by Kølig Kaj at Eurovision in 1997. Together they wrote Should’ve Known Better, the song Soluna Samay sang in Baku in 2012. Both have participated several times as composers at the Danish national final with out winning.
Thomas G:son and Henrik Sethsson are well known names in Melodifestivalen and in Melodi Grand Prix. In 2010 they wrote the Danish winner In A Moment Like This and in 2012 the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest entry Euphoria was written by Thomas G:son.
Marcos Ubeda has played a part in 17 entries in Melodifestivalen of which two made it to Eurovision – Take Me To Your Heaven (Eurovision winner 1999) and Never Let It Go (2002).
In 2009 Arash represented Azerbaijan with the song Always, now he is back. Always was written by Arash and Alexanders Papaconstantinou among others, and the two of them have together written a song to Melodi Grand Prix 2015.
Danish national final redefined
Danish national broadcaster, DR, has in 2015 redefined the Danish national final
to what they call "volume 2" and though the format is the same, some
things are different:
– The name of the selection known as Dansk Melodi Grand Prix has lost
its national identity and is now simply titled Melodi Grand Prix, just
like it is in Norway.
– The 10 participating songs have been made available to the public two
weeks before the show. The songs are available for radio airplay, on
Youtube, and through other streaming sites. The official CD hit the stores
Monday.
– 5 professional juries spread across the country will together with the viewers decide the outcome. The juries have 50 % of the deciding votes.
The final in Denmark has 10 acts – as usual – and they were selected
through an open submission which received 687 songs, and furthermore, a
number of wild cards were given out. The show will be held 7th of
February in Aalborg, a city in North Jutland which also hosted the
Danish national final in 1992, 2006, 2010 and 2012.
