When Flemming Bamse Jørgensen died on New Year’s Night it was quite unexpected. He had big plans for 2011 with a spring recording in Nashville, USA as the first thing. That album is now being cancelled although the band is considering continuing with a new lead singer. Several memorial events are on the way.
At first Bamses Venner decided that it naturally was over with the death of their lead singer. Flemming Bamse Jørgensen founded the band in the early 1070’s and it was impossible to imagine that his band could continue without him. Their manager, John Madsen, says however that a meeting among them all Tuesday morning resulted in the wish to continue in Bamses “spirit”. No names for a new possible lead singer were mentioned, which immediately let to the Medias asking their readers for suggestions. A few suggestions were made, but most reacted negative towards the idea of Bamses Venner (The Friends of Bamse, EDT.) continuing without Bamse.
The funeral will be a small event only for the closest family, but a memorial concert, which would give the fans the opportunity to say their goodbyes, is being planned. Manager John Madsen says that “it is sure that a lot of artists want to come” to such a memorial concert. No date or anything more specific has been mentioned though.
Bamse was a big fan of the local football club, AGF, which currently plays in the second best league in Denmark and they are also planning events as a tribute to their fan. Bo Jensen from AGF’s communication department says “We have not yet decided what will happen, but it is absolute certain that it will be noted”. Whatever the football club comes up with will probably take place in relation to their first match on home field when the Danish tournament starts up again in mid March. Some of the things mentioned are that all the players will have the name Bamse on their shirts for that day and another possibility is to put flowers at the seat, which was Flemming Bamse Jørgensen’s private seat at the stadium.
From AGF’s fanclub it has been requested that the match starts with one minute of silence as a tribute to Bamse. They haven’t yet received a reply to this, but they expect that it will take place.
2011 was planned to be a fantastic year for Bamse himself. He was about to go to Nashville, USA for a recording of a new country-rock album. From that album a single or two would have been released this spring, while the album itself would have hit the market in time to be one of the best selling albums for the Christmas 2011 sale.
