Today the Danish broadcaster, DR, announced that next year’s Danish final will be hosted in Herning on the 26th of January 2013. The weekend after the same arena, Jyske Bank Boxen, will host the Danish Junior final. Herning hosted the Danish final twice before – in 2001 and 2009.
When the deadline to sybmit entries for the Danish final expired on the 24th of September the broadcaster, DR, had recieved a total of 692 songs. An internal selection will listen to them and pick 6 or 7 for the line-up for the Danish final, the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. Furthermore DR will hand out 3 or 4 wildcards to established names or upcoming talents they would like to see in the show. In total 10 acts will compete to be Denmark’s participant for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.
As DR in recent years have decided to move the national final out of its studios and into stages all around the country it is always awaited with big exitement who will become the next Melodi Grand Prix City. This means more than just hosting the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix as the city will be arranging various events all around its city to engage its own inhabitants and the many fans travelling to the show. Recent we will have also seen the Danish junior final taking place on the same stage just one week later, the 2nd of February.
Today it was then announced that the 2013 Melodi Grand Prix City is Herning. The arena will be Jyske Bank Boxen which can have up to 15.000 in the audience. The date was also announced. The Danish final will take place on the 26th of January, while the same arena will host the Danish Junior final the week after.
