Heavy rock and snow in Finlands third selection heat

This evening, Finland held the third and last semi-final. As before two songs would qualify for the final and the other two would have to try again in the second chance round.

Once again, the show came from Tampere and was hosted by Jaana Pelkonen & Mikko Peltonen.

JennaSinua Varten. Jenna is known to Finnish audiences through her successful appearance in the popular show ‘Tango Festival’ where she was crowned Tango Queen last year. Her song is a very gentle ballad.

Cristal SnowCan’t Save Me. Cristal started his show business career as an actor, studying at the City College in New York. As a singer, his style is electro pop and ‘Can’t Save Me’ is in that mould.

Vuokko HovattaVirginia. Vuokko became famous as part of Ultra Bra, who themselves competed unseccessfully in the Euroviisut. She was recently in the Finnish version of Evita. This is a gentle song with a strong orchestral arrangement.

Teräsbetoni –  Missä Miehet Ratsastaa. To coin a phrase, and now for something completely different! The heavy metal band released their first album in 2005. If you like your rock music, this is for you.

After a short interval, the results were announced. Through to the final on March 1st are…… Teräsbetoni and Cristal Snow with 51.7% and 27.4% of the televote respectively. Jenna and Vuokko will have to try again in the second chance round on Friday. The final itself is the day after.

In my view

Whichever songs qualify from the second chance round, there will be a variety of songs to look forward to in the final, from typical Finnish ballads to techno and rock. If the televote is anything to go by, Teräsbetoni will be on of the favourites. They were the only act to win more than 50% of the televote in their semi-final. With a different set of songs to compete against, the result could be completely different.
