Finland – The Search Continues

This evening, Finland held the second of their three semi-finals. Once again the hosts were Jaana Pelkonnen, host for the 2007 Eurovision, and Peltsi Peltola.

As was the case with the first semi-final last week, two songs will go through to the final; the other two will have to hope for better luck in the second chance round.

Ninja – Battlefield of Love. This is possibly the trendiest song of the evening. It’s synth pop which was given a breathy vocal by Ninja. As you might expect from someone calling herself Ninja, she was wearing a Kimono.

Kristian Meurman – Jos en Sua Saa. This song is a gentle acoustic guitar-led ballad in the soft rock style.

Jippu – Kanna Minut. Following Kristian was probably not the best draw that Jippu could have wished for. Her song is very similar to the last one, being another acoustic guitar-led ballad. It builds slightly in the second half.

Mikael Konttinen – Milloin. The final song of the evening was written by the same team which wrote the popular ‘Shanghain Valot’ from the 2006 Finnish final, in fact, comparisons can be made between the two songs. ‘Milloin’ has a similar James Bond style string and brass arrangement.

While the viewers were voting, they were entertained by a troupe of breakdancers.

Finally, the results……Mikael Konttinen with 46.1% and Kristian Meurman with 26.8% of the votes are through to the final. Ninja and Jippu will have to try again in the second chance round.

In my view

There was more quality in this semi than the first one with ‘Milloin’ sounding like a potential Finnish representative. Congratulations to the Finnish public, they chose the best two songs tonight.
