This year’s Eurovision Song Contest has just ended. We are still unsure about dates and host city for next year, but the broadcasters are already starting their search for participants. DR has just opened for songwriters to submit their entry to the Danish national final.
DR had high expectations this year and Thomas N’evergreen made it clear that he was in it to win. Him and Chanée ended 4th with their song In A Moment Like This and have afterwards said that they are not planning to try again. Do you think you have a song that can bring the Eurovision Song Contest back to Denmark? If so, then it is time to polish it and send it to DR, the Danish broadcaster.
The rules are the same as last year. Foreign songwriters are allowed as long as the singers are Danish. Foreign singers are allowed if the songwriters are Danish. A committee at DR will select six of the submitted songs for the national final, the Danish Melodi Grand Prix, plus a couple of reserve ones in case of any disqualification. Four songwriters will be specially invited to write a song for the Contest on a so-called wild card making a total of 10 songs participating in the national selection. The Eurovision rules about a maximum length of 3 minutes and six people on stage also counts for the Danish final. Nor the song or the lyrics must have been made public before.
Once a song has been selected for the national final DR and the composer of the song will talk about possible performers. In case of any disagreement DR’s suggestion as to who shall sing the song is valid.
You can submit your entry in any language you want to, but should you win the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix the language for the Eurovision Song Contest will be decided in collaboration between composer and DR.
The deadline to submit entries is the 27th of September at 12:00. You can find the rules in both Danish and English on DR’s website.
