The United Kingdom will be performing straight into the grand final this Saturday. The country is represented by Electro Velvet with the song Still In Love With You. Are there any changes since the country’s first rehearsal? Does it look is if they are in with a chance for a good result? We try to answer your questions reporting live from inside the hall of Wiener Stadthalle.
Electro Velvet brought the venue down with their performance for the 60th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest a couple of months ago. Admittedly, that was a performance on home ground, yet, one would think that the duo would be able to recreate some of the excitement here in Vienna. Unfortunatly, most people who have seen the rehearsals for the United Kingdom agree that the presentation does not seem to work. Alex and Bianca, her in a short white fur jacket today, are talented and it is not that there has not been effort and thinking put into the presentation, it is that the effort and thinking may have been put towards the wrong direction. I think that some more exciting camera work is needed here. There is a sequence where the duo are rotating looking up at an overhead camera while the stage floor display below them is also rotating – this works extremely well and really suits the spirit of the song; the British delegation should have used some more of this because, for a dance song, the entry looks pretty static quite often. The United Kingdom’s ranking will not be affected by the running order – there are a few other issues here to think about instead.
