What about changing the formula for the oldest running TV show currently showing??

The concept of a song written only for the Eurovision Song Contest is more than 50 years old, and it could do with a facelift.

My idea is that every country selects its most popular song from last year, maybe after a national final between the 5 to 10 most popular tunes, and sends it to the contest. Of course, allowing the composer, singer or band the right to say no, if they don’t want to take part.

The way the Eurovision Song Contest is held today with its semis and final is quite okay, but I think it’s a waste of time. There are many songs written for nationals finals that we`ll never get to hear again, simply because they are not good enough for airplay. Most of them are written in the special Eurovision Song Contest style where 2/3 of the song is about the performance on the stage. What I mean is, that the more spectacular the show you put on the stage, the more points you`ll get.

It’s my honest belief that we`ll get to hear better songs when they are written with a commercial market in mind, and not like today for a 3 minute, one night only performance.

I know that the artists put all their heart and soul in delivering the best performance they can, but to me it’s a pain in the a*?@ to hear all those songs that should never have been written.
