We’re Off! Press Conferences – Day 1

Every day, Eurovisionary will be bringing you a summary of all the press conferences held by each delegation soon after they have rehearsed. Today was the first day of rehearsals and Montenegro had the honour of getting things underway.

The Montenegrins said they were happy with the way the first rehearsal had gone and that Stefan was singing in his native language to help his career develop in South Eastern Europe.

Like the Montenegrins, the Israeli delegation was happy with their rehearsal. Boaz said that performing 12 times on Israeli Independence Day recently had left him feeling tired. He also said that Dana International, who wrote the song, will be with him at the next conference.

One of the questions asked of Geta Burlacu was why she only had one person with her on stage during her performance when so many countries use the full allocation of six. She said it is because the person with her, who sits on a sofa playing the trumpet, is the one she loves and to have any more on stage would spoil the intimacy.

Miodio, the first San Marinese representatives, declared themselves happy to be so and performed and acapella version of ‘Complice’.

Providers on one of the more unusual songs this year, Belgium were next to face the media. The composer, Michel Vangheluwe, said he wrote the song one morning, when he had flashbacks of good and bad memories from his childhood. They endeared themselves to the locals by singing a Serbian song and concluded with this year’s Belgian entry.

The second debutants this year, Azerbaijan, also have an unusual song. Elnur and Samir said that support for the contest has grown since they won their national final. At the end of the conference, they distributed what will probably become one of the most sought after press packs of this year, containing as it did a range of gifts from their homeland.

Rebeka Dremelj from Slovenia had a warning for the assembled press at the start of her conference, “Our first rehearsal was really awful, so we’re all in a bad mood right now. It was bad because of us and nobody else. Everything will go well in the future, so please no questions about the first rehearsal." However, the conference was quite cheerful and Rebeka even sung the English version of ‘Vrag Naj Vzame’.

The final conference of the day was given by the Norwegians. Maria wowed everyone with her singing ability and declared herself happy with the rehearsal. Her favourite song is the Danish entry.

Please visit us tomorrow, when we will be covering the press conferences from day two.
